There's a Hole in My Bucket, Dear Liza, Dear Liza

Who remembers this song? Click to hear it.

Jessi Gage here. Hello romance readers!

I loved the "Hole in My Bucket" song as a kid. Now, as an adult, I am beginning to associate holey buckets with conflict, and not the romantic, page-turning kind.

After viewing a on building an AC-in-a-bucket, I decided to give the DIY project a try. Surely, just like the video suggested, the project would be quick, easy, and cheap.

Sounds like your typical DIY project, no? No.

You'd think I would have learned by now, what with the emergency pool-patch project and the fix-the-lawn-chair-with-a-jump-rope project. I guess I'm one of those people who never learns :).

For "The $20 5-Gallon Bucket Saga" Part I and Part II, click the links. Warning: frustration driven humor and cursing. There's also an update on my blog homepage right now that is nothing but cuteness. But here, I will simply say...

I DID IT! I'm queen of the WORLD! I totally ROCK!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen (are there any gentlemen here?), I have completed the AC-in-a-bucket project and am now sitting cool on my couch.

I began the project two weeks ago and just finished tonight thanks to the bucket liners coming by UPS yesterday. The project itself was not difficult or time consuming, but gathering all the necessary materials took a bit of doing.

The bucket liners were the sticking point. I could only order them online in a package of 3, and shipping was an arm and a leg. I felt like a cryptozoologist seeking footage of some weird monster (I've got cryptozoology on the brain after reading Mae Claire's Solstice Island, but that's completely beside the point).

Furthermore, the $20 budget does not include purchasing two hole-saw extensions for your drill, which ran me $18 a piece.

The point is, SHE IS FINALLY DONE!

Without further ado, here she is. I call her: Chilli Baby:

Whoopeeeee!

While you're psyching yourself up to make your own AC-in-a-bucket, pick up a copy of my latest release PASSIONATE KISSES BOXED SET for just $0.99.

Leave a comment below, and I'll enter you in a drawing to receive an advance copy of my August release, Jade's Spirit. I'd like to know if you're idea of a fun summer day is a DIY project or reading a book...or both!

More Summer Fun

Back to school is just around the corner.  I thought summer may be relaxing, but instead we've been running most of the season.    We did miss our Vegas trip in July since training got rescheduled for my husband.   That didn't slow us down too much, though.

On July 4th we went to a local concert.   I'll go ahead and show my age since I remembered this band from back in my high school days.  Of course they also have some newer hits and any fan of country music would recognize Diamond Rio, am I right?   I got lucky and captured the tickets at the last minute.   When we got to the concert we ran into my husband's Aunt who led us over to where she was sitting with a few of his other Aunts & cousins.  So it turned out to be a great time with family!

Our dogs keep sneaking out of yard in this heat.  We catch them running up to the local reservoir swimming. I got tired of their little escape artist acts and started a search for a little plastic pool to keep them happy.   I wasn't having any luck.   Then last night my husband stopped at our local little grocery store and found some. The place I was least likely to ever think would have one.

And we've still got another three weeks or so into August to continue having fun.   Who knows what opportunities will appear between now and then?   This summer we're just going with the flow and living in the moment.   We know this school year will bring some big changes as our son starts high school so we're making as many memories as possible now.

RomCon 2014!

Hi there!  My name is C.A. Szarek and I write just about everything, but I am published in romantic suspense and epic fantasy romance.

This is my VERY FIRST post since the lovely asked me to be a part of the group!

Last month I attended my first RomCon, which is a reader focused conference that always takes place in June in Denver.

It was so exciting, and different from other conferences I've attended, because it was so reader focused!

I got to participate in things like Scrapbooking with readers as an author host, as well as the Paranormal Carnival! As a reader, I got to do Building a Better Villain with Cherry Adair, and preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse with Heather Graham!

Me and Cherry! I ADORE HER!

Meeting Heather was GREAT!

I also got to do the signing and meet friends, and make new fans!

I had so much fun at RomCon, and it's definitely a conference I will visit again! I learned alot, and made long, lasting contacts with readers and other writers!

It's always in June, and next year, I'd love to see y'all!

Here's where to find me around the web, and a little more about me, since I'm new here.

Look Out College! Here She Comes!

I can't believe it. I've denied and denied this eventuality, but I cannot any longer. My eldest is going to college at the end of August! Pardon me, but I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. *Swishes and gargles Listerine*

I never cried when she went off to daycare, or preschool, or Kindergarten. I didn't blink an eye when she moved on to Jr High School or High School. For me, it was always pure excitement at all the news things life had in store for her. HOWEVER, I most certainly cried good and ugly when she graduated back in May.

There's nothing bigger in a school career than the move from school at home to college. My little girl is a young lady now. I LOVE it and hate at the same time. I miss the snuggles like crazy and the times when she'd fall asleep on me. But I love the debates and laughs we have together. I love how people respond to her and tell me what a wonderful young woman she's become and how that's all because of great parenting. But I hate that I won't be seeing her on a regular basis. I actually said the words, "We have to coordinate our calendars so I know what holidays you'll be home. Oh, I don't think you'll be home for your birthday!" *Sighs*

Weird. Very weird.

And so I guess I'll have more time to myself now that I'll only have one daughter at home. On second thought, nope! I got to have eldest for three years, all by herself, when she was born. Now, I get to have youngest, who's entering high school this August, all to myself for the next four. I'm thrilled! But don't worry! I'm not a helicopter parent! I don't want to be her best friend, but if she wants to hang out with me, I won't say no. After all, these teenage years are so very formative.

Anyone else out there going through this kind of transition? Feel free to share with us!

Hugs and love,
Deena Remiel

Fireworks, Ducks, and Sharks. Oh my!

It was a fun filled July 4th weekend for all of us, that is for sure. We had a blast Friday night. Husband and I were off and spent most of the day shopping for food for our cook out then cleaning the house. We had neighbors over to eat and hang out then did fireworks in our driveway. I don't mean little fireworks either, I mean the huge ones. Husband spared no expense on this Independence Day.
Good food, great friends, and awesome fireworks. It was a blast.

Saturday the husband decided to go car shopping with a friend so my girls and I decided to go shopping, have some lunch, and walk around downtown. I absolutely love where I live especially in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. It is beautiful here. We took a walk around downtown and saw all the fish, ducks, and baby ducks which just made the girls day. :)

Ducks and fish.

Mom and her littles

Finally Sunday we figured we would take all the girls up to Chattanooga Aquarium. Why not right? It took us about an hour and a half to get there and it was a beautiful day for it. We got there right when they opened and it took us about two hours to walk through both buildings. After the aquarium we ate at Mellow Mushroom (fantastic pizza) and drove back home. We got home around 2pm and by 3pm husband and I were taking a nap. lol.

Sharks!

We caught children!

It was such a fun filled but busy weekend. We were all exhausted by the end of Sunday. My husband and I really have no clue how to just sit around the house but that's a good thing. I'd much rather be out and about doing things and showing our girls a good time.

I hope everyone had a great July 4th!!

I'd like to quickly mention the anthology I have coming out next Tuesday. Three authors and myself put together an anthology called Confessions of a Sex Addict. I actually posted a FB status just to be funny really asking if I gave a book that title if anyone would download it. Next thing I know my friend Hunter S. Jones wrote me and said "That would be a great idea for an anthology!" And poof! Confessions was born. These are four steamy stories that are more than just sex. It was a great idea and blossomed into a great anthology I believe everyone will love.

BLURB:

Secrets revealed.
One hot summer, four sultry stories.
An erotic anthology with a twist, set in contemporary New Orleans.

Meet Andi, the bartender from Nashville who won't be faithful.
Drew, the seducer or the victim?
The anonymous one, the one who watches.
Jennifer the cougar, she's a good girl, really.
The moderator, friend or predator?

Love. Magic. Guilty Pleasures.
What's your secret?

 COMING JULY 15TH!

Thanks for reading along and for your continued support!

Much love!

July 4th is right around the corner!

What do you like to do to celebrate July 4th?

My family usually BBQs and eats lots of food! Then we find a good place to park and watch the fireworks.

I thought I'd be a little different this month and share a couple of my favorite recipes to get your appetite whet for this weekend!

CREAM CHEESE CORN
6 cups of freshly cut off the cob corn kernels
1 (8 oz package) cream cheese
1/2 cup butter

Combine the corn, butter or margarine and the cream cheese in a medium sized saucepan. Cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes. Serve hot.
Garnish with chopped chives.

PULLED PORK
Ingredients
Dry Rub:
3 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon dry mustard
3 tablespoons coarse sea salt
1 (5 to 7 pound) pork roast, preferably shoulder or Boston butt

Mix the paprika, garlic power, brown sugar, dry mustard, and salt together in a small bowl. Rub the spice blend all over the pork. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight.

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Put the pork in a roasting pan and roast it for about 6 hours. An instant-read thermometer stuck into the thickest part of the pork should register 170 degrees F, but basically, what you want to do is to roast it until it's falling apart.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Pie

1 1/2 cup crushed pretzels
4 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
3/4 cup butter, melted
1 cup white sugar
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (6 ounce) packages strawberry flavored Jell-O
2 cups boiling water
1 (16 ounce) package frozen strawberries

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Mix together the pretzels, 4 1/2 tablespoons sugar and melted butter. Press into the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan. Bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly toasted. Set aside to cool completely.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat the sugar and cream cheese until smooth. Fold in whipped topping. Spread evenly over the cooled crust. Refrigerate until set, about 30 minutes.
  3. In a medium bowl, stir together the gelatin mix and boiling water. Mix in frozen strawberries, and stir until thawed. Pour over cream cheese mixture in pan. Refrigerate until completely chilled, at least 1 hour.

I hope you enjoy! Happy Early 4th!

XOXO
Krystal Shannan
