The Way A Princess - I mean Me - Camps

I hate camping.  I really, really do.  Of course, I am not an outdoor adventurer.   I don't think it looks fun to risk your life rappelling off a cliff, sliding off a water slide that's sitting on a 50 foot canyon drop, or hiking hours to get to the top of a mountain.  Those things are not my idea of fun.   I don't even like to run around the block.  Some of it is my body.    Some of it is my attitude.    I was that kid that overheats on a 70 degree day then due to her heart murmur huffs and puffs to make the full mile for gym class, screw getting the right time on the mile.   That teacher is lucky I finished a mile.   Even if I spent 1/2 of it speed walking like a turtle.

Anyway, camping is not my sport.   I pretend to like it.   I attempt to like it.  I get all excited about it.  I make a Pinterest board and find all sorts of fun looking foods to make while camping.   My mouth waters thinking about burnt marshmallows.   I don't have the patience to roast and why spend ten minutes on something that tastes great in sixty seconds when you blow it out?  Maybe that's the little pyromaniac in me....

Then my mother in law let us borrow their RV last summer for a weekend.   Camping is no longer the same. Now I have a nice bed to sleep in.   I can enjoy mostly bug free sleeping.   If it gets a little hot flip on the air conditioner and curl up on the bed with a book in the afternoon.    Then there's the perk of having a bathroom that doesn't consist of using leaves or stepping across all the night bugs that worked their way into the outdoor toilets.   Now, I can almost love camping.  Let's leave it at I really enjoy camping now.

So earlier this month when my brother and his family came to visit I was thrilled when she offered to let us borrow the RV again.  I had planned to take them to a place called Lava Hot Springs.  Lava Hot Springs is in Idaho and it has a natural mineral water hot spring.   The hotels in the area all tout the healing properties of the water.  It was very relaxing and I loved getting to spend some quality time with my family.    We even went mostly technology free for a few days to just enjoy each other.

The first photo I am going to share is where our campsite was located.   This river runs throughout the campground and you can rent inner tubes to float the river.   My son was disappointed we ran out of time and he didn't get to do that this trip.

I didn't get any photo's of the actual hot springs this trip.   I was too busy taking adorable photo's of my niece.   We did a little selfie session where I got her to sticking out her tongue.   For the rest of the week she wanted to do selfies with everyone and stick her tongue out the entire time.   Oh the joys of corrupting the young.

I can't wait to see what exciting adventures the rest of our summer brings!

A Father's Day Poem

Today I’d like to share with you a very special man. The first man I ever truly loved the one that held my hand.  He’s always been there by my side when I needed him the most.  He’s always made me see in me how special I can be.

I love my dad with all my heart; he was my first true friend.  He loves me unconditionally and always cheers me on.  He’s never ever let me down as a child or an adult.  He’s the one I always run to whenever I’m in doubt.

Any man can be a father, but it takes a lot to be a dad.  True love and understanding and a lot of patience too, and I’m so very happy that he had all that for me.

I can’t tell you how truly lucky I am to have him in my life.  I admire him to no end because he’s such a special dad.

"Happy Father’s Day to all you dad’s who truly fit the bill."

Beachin' It Up....

My family and I just got back from our summer vacation down to Gulf Shores, Alabama and I must say it was one of my more relaxing trips. This was my girls second time at the beach so they knew more of what to expect whereas the first trip two years ago had me on pins and needles the entire time. This year we left at 4am and got to Gulf Shores by 10am so we had the entire day to hit the beach, do lunch, squeeze in some shopping, and enjoy everything.

What 5am looks like on the beach...

What 5pm looks like on the beach...

I always love Gulf Shores. It's not over whelming, it's not overly crowded, and the people are always so nice. The condo we stay at called the Royal Palms is perfect! It's a small condo at the end of the strip on Gulf Shores parkway. It's only about twelve floors and we are always on the eighth floor which is a perfect in between spot. The condo we rent has two bedrooms and two buck beds in the hall, perfect for our little family of five. Because our condo is smaller than the others it's not as crowded on the beach either. I absolutely love it. Every day we woke, hit the beach, did lunch, shopped a bit, relaxed, hit the beach again, then I sat out on the balcony every night until I just couldn't see the waves anymore. I love it.

The Royal Palms. Yes it's pink. hehe

It's a tradition for us to eat at Ribs and Reds when we go down. It was good but a lot of fried food. We decided to try somewhere new as well so we ventured down the parkway to Lulu's. Omg it was absolutely fantastic. I wish I had gotten a picture of the blackened grilled shrimp I got but it was so amazing I didn't take a second to take a picture so you'll just have to trust me. lol. We had a good plan in place for this trip. We ate lunch out then would eat dinner at the condo that way we wouldn't have to go out anywhere else. Very convenient.

We saw one jelly fish, one sting ray, a sea turtle, and dolphins! Yes, we went on a dolphin tour and it was worth the $15 per person! The boat was covered and we even sat at an actual table but could walk around once the boat was moving. We saw a family of 4-5 dolphins and followed them around a bit. Wonderful experience.

The waves were quite rough this time around but it didn't stop us. I didn't plan on being in the water as much as I was but my little Maddy wouldn't go deep unless I was with her so mama got to play in the waves too.

Oh and something new that happened this year....On day two we had a small explosion on the beach. Yep, that's right. Someone found an unexploded military flare on the beach and called the authorities. Next thing we knew we had cops telling us to get out of the water and move down the beach a few yards. They had to set up a controlled environment and set it off. It was a descent sized explosion and apparently it happens more than you would think. Still nuts.

It was very relaxing however I didn't get any writing in so that's what I've been doing ever since I got back home. My computer was confiscated by my pre teens while there and I was too busy loving the ocean to worry about my computer.

I'll tell you, I never feel more at peace than I do when I'm at the ocean. I can't wait to go again.

My eleven year old is very photogenic and loves the camera. My twelve year old wants nothing to do with it but I managed to squeeze in a few. ;)

Thanks for reading!! I hope you all have a wonderful Summer!

The List....

Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

This is the only life you get. There are no do-overs, no going back, no second chances. I truly believe we should make each and every day count. I’m not saying cram as much stuff into one day as humanly possible. I’m saying enjoy each moment of the day as much as you can.

Even if work sucks, your husband hasn’t fixed that faucet that’s been leaking for three weeks, your baby is teething, your best friend volunteered you to help out with the latest PTA fundraiser, look at the big picture. Are you letting all those little stressful things control your life and your attitude?

Years from now, you’ll look back on your life. Do you want to be 70 years old and begin to wonder what if?

Make a list of all your dreams and goals. The wildest things you can possibly think of. It can be anything from wanting to visit the Great Wall, to going back to college, to writing that great American novel. Write it all down.

Now imagine you’re 70 years old and you’re making a list of all the things you didn’t do, either you were too busy, too tired, or too scared to take the chance. How many of those things that you didn’t do will you regret not doing?

Now look at the list you just made. What is the one thing, that one thing you know in your heart you’ll regret not doing years from now? Does it scare the hell out of you? If it doesn’t, you’re not dreaming big enough. If it does make your tummy a little uneasy then you’re on the right track and you’re next question should be why not?

Why not give it a shot? Why not start saving for that dream trip, dream house, dream education, dream career. Why not start working today to make those dreams come true. Even if you fail, at least you’ll know you tried.

That’s the secret between a happy person and a not-so-happy person. The happy person is at least trying to reach a goal, facing fear head on and trying to make a dream come true. The unhappy people are the ones too afraid to try.

Fear is okay. Fear is good. Use it to motivate you.

Until the fear of remaining the same outweighs the fear of change, then nothing in your life will ever change. It will always remain the same.

I say look fear straight in the eye and laugh at it! Then go for it!

He’s been looking for the perfect subject for his grant study, but something’s been missing from each of the women he’s questioned so far. Everything changes when Jane Smith #129 steps into his exam room.
It’s supposed to be anonymous, clinical research and nothing more. But when he finds her inner submissive hiding just below the surface, they both find more than they bargained for.

Arizona Dreamin 2014 Rocked!

Krystal & April
Together at Last!
April, Sonja, Krystal, Becca
I'm a little late on my post, but it was only because I was having a blast out in Arizona. I attended Arizona Dreamin 2014 and got to meet my critique partner April London for the first time face-to-face! She's awesome! (But, I already knew that.) We had so much fun. It was us and two other friends of hers (Sonja and Angela) packed into one hotel room. Total girls' weekend. LOVED EVERY MINUTE and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Angela and Sonja.

We filled the mini fridge with wine and snacks and carried our red solo cups all over the hotel. Angela is already planning for next year :-) Yay! Can't wait!

The party started with a keynote speech by none other than Diana Gabaldon! OMG! She was fabulous. If you want to hear her speech and talk about OUTLANDER, check out my videos! I put them up today. There are 6 for Diana's speech. The one above is only #1. Check me out on . I also got Outlander signed and a copy of her Companion Guide.

SQUEAL! FANGIRLING MOMENT!

Krystal Shannan, Diana Gabaldon

I also got to meet one of my fabulous fans, Debbie Close and her daughter! So cool!

Next, we are on to the workshops! They were great. I got lots of good tidbits on writing and social media from a variety of authors. I especially had fun in Kallypso Master's workshop where we got to hear all about some of her adventures in research.

Kallypso & Krystal

Doms, Subs, Whips, BDSM Clubs, Oh My!

Deena & James

Then it was party time!!! They were pinning something on the something **giggle**. Rhonda's Vodka chocolate pudding shots! Wow, those were strong, but oh so delicious. James (last year's Man of Our Dreams really liked them.)

Needless to say, we didn't sleep much.

The next morning we had Author Book Clubs! I got chat with the fabulous Lizzy Ford, Robyn Peterman, Kris Tualla, Beverly Preston, Deena Remiel, & Susan Squires. They were all fabulous and I really enjoyed getting to know them better.

Take your shirt off Nic!
Come on, you know you want to!
Deena & Krystal
I will leave you with a delicious dessert!
